CARDS FOR CONVERSATION

SAINSBURY CENTRE FOR THE VISUAL ARTS

I worked with a group of teachers, community leaders, artists, university staff, students and representatives from the student union to develop new interpretation tools for objects from the Sainsbury centre permanent collection. Using philosophy for communities methodology, I facilitated group workshops to develop key concepts to explore in the interpretation. Through conversation and co-editing sessions, Cards for Conversation were created.

The cards draw on the collection to examine lived experiences, considering our connection to work, leadership, how we care for our planet and each other. They raise questions about why certain objects are in the collection and their relationship to past histories. Moving beyond more traditional ways of looking, they open us up to multiple perspectives, recognising that there isn’t one way of seeing and interpreting.
